VOIP Phones Have Come A Long Way

When VOIP technology first broke, people were using their computers to dial and headsets that were anything than reliable to talk. The connections were poor at best and the sound quality left a whole lot to be desired. That's not the case anymore. Thanks to some major advancements in this technology, voip phones have come a long way.

VoIP technology, for newcomers, is nothing more than Voice over Internet Protocol. This means, in a nutshell, using the Internet to place and receive telephone calls. The technology has been around for a while, but major improvements have come on the scene in the past few years. Gone are the days of crackling connections and dropped calls. With new voip phones now available, the service quality is actually pretty incredible.

Those who seek out voip phones will find there are two major classifications of them. They include:

  • Actual voip phones. These are designed to work with a broadband Internet connection specifically. These phones will not, generally, accept a regular phone line connection. Since they’re meant to work with VoIP services, the quality of conversation they offer is generally fairly high. These phones can be found at most major electronics stores and through service providers themselves. These phones are now high-tech enough that there are business models available. Allowing for multiple incoming calls, hold features and more, pretty much anything a regular phone system can do, a VoIP one can, too.
  • Regular telephones. Many regular telephones can actually be used as voip phones, too. To make this set up work, however, the Internet service needs to provide a special adapter. Some companies that offer VOIP services will provide these. With these adapters, any regular phone in a home or office can quickly become a VOIP capable machine.
As voip phones continue to improve, more and more companies and households are going this route for having phone service. The quality and speed involved is a great deal better, in most cases, than regular phone service of the past. Many times, users will also find this type of phone service is a great deal cheaper than traditional. The features involved in VOIP now can include:
  • Unlimited calling. Some providers of voip phones and services offer everything for a single monthly price. If a lot of long distance calls are traditional, this feature can be a huge time saver. Some companies even offer free international calls, as well.
  • Caller ID. As technology behind voip phones expands, this feature is generally offered, as well.
  • Call block. Just about any service provided by a regular phone company can now be had by providers of voip phones. Call block, call return and so on are now all standard features for businesses and household users, too.

It might have begun with a headset and a bad connection, but the truth is VOIP service has changed a lot in recent years. With major telephone and cable companies working the technology to their advantage, voip phones are now sophisticated and are becoming more so all the time.
